This week I wrapped up the East Coast leg of college touring with my boys.
We finished at the Harvard Business School campus.
I walked them through my old spots, the corners that shaped me, the places I sat as a student with everything still in front of me.
The buildings have changed.
The memories have not.
Funny how a place can look completely different while the lessons, the friendships, and the version of you that formed there never really leave.
Standing there with my sons, time folded in on itself.
One minute you are the one figuring out who you are.
The next you are walking your own kids to the edge of the same question.
It made the job clear again.
My work was never to hand them the answer.
It was to build the character underneath them, then step back and let their potential find its own way out.
You cannot install potential in someone.
You can only build the ground it grows from, then stop digging it up to check.
That is true for a son.
It is just as true for a founder, a team, a company.
We spend so much energy trying to give people direction.
The deeper work is building the character that makes the direction theirs.
Here are some Inner Game perspectives to consider this week.
